Inter’s Dutch right back Denzel Dumfries is being offered up as a potential free agent signing to replace Real Madrid-linked Trent Alexander-Arnold.

With Liverpool at risk of losing Scouse star Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid on a free next summer after the club allowed the 26-year-old homegrown right back’s contract to run down into its final season and with the player free to sign a pre-contract in January, the rumour mongers are starting to talk up potential replacements.

It’s with a high degree of skepticism, then, that we pass along that some of the less reliable sources of rumour mongering—the likes of Caught Offside and Football Talk—are claiming that unspecified Italian sources have Inter Milan worried they’re set to lose 28-year-old Dutch right back Denzel Dumfries to Liverpool, also on a free transfer.

Like Alexander-Arnold, Dumfries is out of contract at the end of the season, and while he isn’t at the level of the Liverpool star and is two years older he certainly fits the mold of the sort of attacking right back a club like Liverpool might well be sniffing around if they didn’t have a generational talent like Alexander-Arnold already on the books.

Last season, Dumfries had four goals and six assists in 36 appearances, though his contributions on the ball still pale in comparison to Liverpool’s star (ex., 1.47 key passes per 90 vs. 2.63 and 0.23 xA per 90 vs. 0.34). Hopefully the Reds can solve their contract conundrum. If they can’t, though, who knows, it might be Dumfries.
