Rumour Mongering: Trent Alexander-Arnold Remains Real Madrid’s Top Target
According to reports out of Spain a January move for the Liverpool star is unlikely but with the player out of contract next summer he is Madrid’s top right back target.
With the international break putting Liverpool on hiatus for the next ten days or so, the club football news cycle will inevitably turn to transfer chatter to fill the void. Typically for a club like the Reds, that will mean rumours about potential future signings.
This time around, though, perhaps equally inevitably, it appears the focus is more likely to be on departures given the club have three top stars on expiring contracts and all of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold are able to sign a pre-contract with clubs outside of England in three months.
According to the latest chatter out of Spain, Alexander-Arnold’s contract status makes him Real Madrid’s top target to strengthen at right back—a situation made more pressing by the recent injury to Dani Carvajal, who at 32 years of age is now expected to miss the rest of the season.
However, Marca at least don’t think that situation would mean an attempt to unsettle and sign the Liverpool man in January. In fact, Madrid’s most reliable press mouthpiece suggest no contact has yet been made with the player or his agents.
Still, they insist that Alexander-Arnold is a top target. Possibly the top target. And that it’s likely Real Madrid midfielder and fellow Englishman Jude Bellingham has been sent of to the England national team camp this month with instructions to help bend Trent’s ear towards Los Blancos if possible.
All of which is to say that there’s nothing particularly new on offer from the more reliable Spanish outlets. It’s hardly great news for Liverpool fans, though, and serves as one more unwelcome reminder the clock is ticking regarding the contract status of three of the Reds’ top stars.
