Last week’s big victories over Real Madrid and Manchester City were important for the Reds but there’s no time to hang about celebrating.

It would be unfair to suggest Alexis Mac Allister has been anything other than one of Liverpool’s top performers under Arne Slot, but in a season that has seen the emergence of Ryan Gravenberch and Curtis Jones taking a step up, the Argentine midfielder hasn’t gotten the same attention he did last year.

Last week, a well worked one-two with Conor Bradley that led to the opening goal in Liverpool’s victory over Real Madrid pushed Mac Allister back into the Liverpool limelight, and now he says his goal for the rest of the season is to keep contributing with key goals and assists as the Reds look to push on.

“It was special to beat a club like Real Madrid with so much history and the team that they have,” Mac Allister reflected. “Now it’s up to me to continue. I like to score goals, I like to assist. I also want to put some emphasis on that, on improving my numbers. I think I can do that—I always want a little bit more.”

A third of the way into the 2024-25 season, Mac Allister has played already made 20 appearances and played over 1,400 minutes, numbers that speak to a player near the very top of a manager’s teamsheet. His two goals, though, pale in comparison to last season’s return of seven goals and seven assists.

That return came over 3,500 total minutes, meaning the 25-year-old recorded a goal involvement every 250 minutes compared to this season’s goal involvement every 700 minutes. Nobody on the outside will be complaining given the results, but it would still be nice to see his numbers there tick up.

“We are in a great moment,” Mac Allister added. “We have played against two of the best teams in the world in the last week and we have done a great job. We have achieved very important results, but there is no rest. Now we just have to win again on Wednesday and then think about the next game.”
