Luis Diaz On Contract Renewal: “For Me, I Would Stay”

Amidst speculation on what the future holds for the Colombian attacker, Diaz has stated that he is currently very happy at Liverpool and will be talking about a contract renewal.
Fresh off the back of winning a Premier League title in the first season under Arne Slot, Liverpool are in an odd position of expecting significant changes in the summer. After standing pat last year during the transition from Jürgen Klopp to Arne Slot, the Reds will be looking to revamp both fullback positions with Trent Alexander-Arnold moving to Real Madrid and Andy Robertson noticeably losing a step or three.
There is also quite a bit of speculation that major changes could be coming to the attacking band this summer as well. Mohamed Salah is nailed on after signing a two year extension, but Darwin Núñez has never seemed to gain the trust of Slot, while Diogo Jota has again struggled with fitness and form after his return. Perhaps the biggest question mark along the front line, however, is Luis Diaz.
The Colombian attacker has enjoyed his most productive season in front of goal for Liverpool, notching 17 goals and 8 assists across all competitions this season with two games left to play. Despite profiling best as a left winger, Diaz has been been deployed in a central role frequently under Slot this season. With two years left on his current deal, this summer seems to likely time to determine the future for Lucho as he has reportedly garnered interest from Barcelona and the Saudi Pro League.
After Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal, Diaz spoke with Telemundo Deportes about his future. When asked about how he feels about his future with the club, Diaz stated that he is very happy at Liverpool and he is very interested in staying with the club.
”Yes, happy. From the first day I arrived, I’ve always been happy, calm, enjoying the football played at this great team.”
“We’ll be talking about it, we’ll talk about it [about the renewal]. For me, I would stay however many years it takes, it also depends on the club, everything.
“These are details that are sorted out separately. Very calm, I’m happy and enjoying the Premier League.”
It will be interesting to see if and how negotiations go this summer. Diaz may be one of the more saleable assets for the Reds as they look to raise funds for likely two starting caliber fullbacks, a central striker, as well as depth at holding midfield and center back. Diaz will be looking for likely his last big money contract as he is close to the end of his prime.
