Last time these two sides met was the last day of the Premier League, when both sides were still drunk off their respective FA Cup and league triumphs. Both sets of supporters are still very much drunk, and I’d expect today to be one last celebratory hurrah before the serious business of real, competitive football begins in earnest next week.

Of course, there is technically the issue of a big, shiny thing to be lifted today. Is the Community Shield a trophy? Not really, but Palace will likely be going all out to win it, and all things being equal, Liverpool would much rather be lifting it than not. If Liverpool win it, they will equal Arsenal on 17 Charity/Community Shields, both behind Manchester United’s 21.

As for the match: if both sides are level after 90 minutes, it will go straight to a penalty shootout, and both sides are allowed up to 6 subs.
