Rumour Mongering: Javier Pastore Turns Down Liverpool

The Paris Saint-Germain midfielder is said to have rejected the chance to meet Mohamed Salah in person. Sad.

The clock is ticking. Liverpool’s remaining days to bring a player in before the January window closes resemble those last minutes left on the recently updated Doomsday clock. Panic and resignation are our new strange bedfellows. It looks increasingly likely that there will be no exceptional player signed by the club this month despite all the rumours, all the time.

Liverpool have been linked with many a goalkeeper, midfielder and forward since Philippe Coutinho left for Barcelona. Some have been credible, probably. Most are nonsense, cobbled together hearsay and tidbits from football shit-stirrers the world over. Everybody thinks they know what Liverpool should do with that £146million. Enter Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Javier Pastore.

Pastore hasn’t seen much action in Ligue 1 this season under manager Unai Emery. And the Argentinian is said to be weighing up his options but has rejected the chance to sign up with Jürgen Klopp’s squad. The Reds reportedly wanted a loan deal for the player and were preparing an option to buy package that fell somewhere in the £30million range. Oof.

Reports have come out of Italy claiming that the 28-year-old attacking midfielder also sidestepped an approach from Tottenham and instead has designs on a move to Inter Milan.

Klopp has gone on record saying that he would only go for a player this month if the deal was absolutely stellar for the club. “If something jumps in my face, we will think about it,” is what the manager actually said.

A loan move for an out of favor midfielder from a league that doesn’t currently compare to the speed and aggressiveness of the Premier League doesn’t exactly jump into anyone’s face. I haven’t watched much of PSG or Pastore’s abilities anytime recently but when I’ve played video games his computer generated replica has been pretty decent. Still, though. This transfer rumour is probably bullshit. Carry on.
