Klopp Talk: Salah’s Goal was Outstanding

The boss talks about the brightest spot in the Tottenham game.

Buried in the midst of the (completely justified) outrage over this weekend’s poor refereeing decisions was a contender for goal of the season. Mo Salah, the most beautiful man in the world, pulled out all the stops for the second Liverpool goal of the game and danced his way past Tottenham’s defense before sliding the goal past Hugo Lloris. It was gorgeous. Here, watch it again. And again. And maybe once more for good measure.

Klopp was as elated by the goal as he was furious about the refereeing decisions that handed Tottenham a draw.

“It was a fantastic goal, an outstanding goal,” the boss said during the post-match press conference. “It was an outstanding performance [from Salah, and he was] a threat the whole 90 minutes.”

“Mo scored both goals [and] the first one was so cool, to get the ball there and with or without a goalkeeper, it makes no difference — that’s how it looked. And the second one was outstanding, but it’s really difficult to defend because I think everybody in the stadium, his teammates included, thought he would play a pass and in the end he did it by himself — that was probably in this moment the best idea.”

Salah has now scored 21 goals in the Premier League for the club, a mark he’s passed quicker than anyone else in the club’s history. Now if only we could have spent a bit longer celebrating that milestone.
