Liverpool Loan Watch: Five Reds seal loan moves, Origi scores

A busy week for Liverpool Football Club saw five players leave Anfield on temporary spells until the end of the season, while Divock Origi was back in the goals in Germany.

Allan Rodrigues de Souza, Apollon Limassol

Apollon Limassol suffered a disappointing defeat on Wednesday, falling 2-1 at home to APOEL Nicosia. Allan was back in the starting XI, coming off after 81 minutes.

The start marked Allan’s 10^th league start of the season, with the Brazilian crossing the 1,000-minute threshold in the process.

Taiwo Awoniyi, Royal Excel Mouscron

Having not scored since November, Taiwo Awoniyi was dropped for Mouscron’s midtable clash with Genk on Saturday. The Nigerian came off the bench after 58 minutes, but could not make a difference, as his side lost 1-0.

Pedro Chirivella, Willem II

Willem II were in midweek action, taking on Roda JC in the KNVB Cup. Pedro Chirivella’s side won on penalties, and progress to the semifinal. The Spaniard played the full 120 minutes.

Chirivella continued in the first XI on Sunday, as Willem lost 1-0 at bottom placed Sparta Rotterdam. The midfielder came off after 69 minutes.

Ovie Ejaria, Sunderland

Ovie Ejaria was the first of four Reds to seal loan deals on transfer deadline day, as the youngster joined Championship relegation battlers Sunderland until the end of the season.

Ejaria broke through at Liverpool last season, making eight first team appearances, but has struggled for opportunities this year, and will get his first chance at extended senior football at the Stadium of Light.

Ejaria went straight into the Sunderland first XI on Saturday, starting in midfield as the Black Cats lost 2-0 to Ipswich Town at home. The #53 impressed, getting off to a promising start, and played the whole game.

Andy Firth, Chester

Chester were not in action this week.

Jon Flanagan, Bolton Wanderers

After just one first team appearance this season, Jon Flanagan secured a loan spell to Championship side Bolton Wanderers on transfer deadline day.

Flanagan went straight into the Bolton squad on Friday, spending the duration of the Trotters’ 1-0 win over Bristol City on the bench.

Marko Grujic, Cardiff City

Marko Grujic made his third straight start for Cardiff City on Saturday, as the Bluebirds secured an impressive 4-1 win at Leeds United. Grujic earned his customary booking in the 81^st minute, before coming off shortly thereafter.

Ryan Kent, Bristol City

Ryan Kent made his second consecutive start on Friday, but endured a disappointing evening, as his Bristol City were beaten 1-0 at Jon Flanagan’s Bolton. The winger played 90 minutes in the losing effort.

Lazar Markovic, Anderlecht

An eventful transfer deadline day for Lazar Markovic ended with the Serbian winger joining Belgian heavyweights Anderlecht until the end of the season.

The loan is Markovic’s fourth since his last appearance at Liverpool, after previous spells at Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon, and Hull City.

Anderlecht battled to a disappointing 2-2 draw with Mechelen on Sunday. Lacking match fitness, Markovic was not involved.

Sheyi Ojo, Fulham

Sheyi Ojo remained out this weekend, as Fulham continued an impressive run by beating Nottingham Forest 2-0.

Divock Origi, VfL Wolfsburg

Divock Origi netted his first goal of 2018 on Saturday, scoring Wolfsburg’s only goal in a 1-1 home draw against Stuttgart.

It was a good goal too, with Origi picking the ball up outside the area, shifting to his right foot, and planting a powerful strike beyond the goalie’s reach for his fifth goal of the season.

The Belgian played the full game.

Connor Randall, Hearts

Hearts lost 3-1 at Celtic on Tuesday. Connor Randall played the full 90 minutes.

The Jam Tarts returned to winning ways on Saturday, beating St Johnstone 1-0. Randall got another start, but came off at half time.

Daniel Sturridge, West Bromwich Albion

Daniel Sturridge was the first of the five Liverpool players to secure a loan deal this week, after he joined West Bromwich Albion on loan until the end of the season on Monday.

Sturridge leaves Anfield after scoring 63 goals in 133 games for the club, in hopes of earning a re-call to the England squad before this summer’s World Cup.

Sturridge went straight into the West Brom squad for Wednesday’s trip to Manchester City, coming off the bench in the 78^th minute as the Baggies lost 3-0.

The striker then got his first West Brom start on Saturday, lining up alongside Salomon Rondon up front as his side suffered a disappointing 3-2 home loss to Southampton. Sturridge played 62 minutes.

Matty Virtue, Notts County

Notts County earned a 4-1 win over Crewe Alexandra on Saturday. Matty Virtue was not involved in the squad.

Corey Whelan, Yeovil

Corey Whelan continued to struggle to break into the Yeovil first XI this week. He was twice an unused substitute, as Yeovil beat Grimsby Town 3-0 on Tuesday, before brushing aside Cambridge United 2-0 at the weekend.

Harry Wilson, Hull City

Highly-rated winger Harry Wilson had a busy deadline day, as the Welsh U23 star signed a new long-term contract with the Reds, before securing a loan deal to join Championship strugglers Hull City until the end of the season.

Wilson has far outgrown the development leagues, and will be relishing the opportunity to help a Hull side in desperate need of attacking reinforcements.

The loan will be the second of Wilson’s career, following a disappointing spell at League One Crewe Alexandra during the 2015-16 season.

Wilson made his debut on Saturday, coming off the bench after 69 minutes in Hull’s disappointing 1-0 loss at Preston North End.
