Rumour Mongering: Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal Chase Man United Outcast

A few sketchy rumour mongers are linking Liverpool with Luke Shaw. It’s not going to happen.

Earlier in the week, we told you about how Jack Wilshere was being linked to Liverpool and Manchester City and Juventus. And also to Everton. And how that almost certainly meant he would end up at Everton and that it was a case of his agent looking to get him the best deal possible—or even just a deal, full stop.

Today, we’ve got another tale of unlikely transfer links to tackle, with another outcast from another big English club who is being linked with Liverpool and Arsenal and Chelsea and Barcelona. And Everton. The player in question is Manchester United outcast Luke Shaw. And he’s totally ending up at Everton.

Or some other mid-table club, at least. Maybe West Ham or the like. But even leaving aside how unlikely it is United would sell even an outcast to Liverpool, he won’t be ending up at Anfield. Or the Emirates or Stamford Bridge. Or the Camp Nou. Probably especially not the Camp Nou when you get right down to it.

As in the case of Wilshere, this seems a case of the player’s agent floating his client’s name to the press—with outlets like The Mirror and Express picking up on it—connecting him to a veritable smorgasbord of big clubs to get a smaller one like Everton to step up their offer and get to work securing said player’s signature.

Though with it likely that Alberto Moreno will move on in the summer in search of starting minutes somewhere after a resurgent autumn, there’s at least more of a case that Shaw, who’s still only 22 years of age, would make a sensible reclamation project as well as a sold backup to current starter Andy Robertson.

But even then you run up against how unlikely it is that United would even consider selling to Liverpool—as much in this case because of the risk of embarrassment should Shaw pan out at Anfield—and it all goes away again. So. Everton. He’s totally heading to Everton. Along with Jack Wilshere, probably.
