Klopp Rebukes Salah For Dive: “That’s Not What I Want To See”

The PFA Player of the League has now matched his longest Liverpool scoreless run with the tough loss to Chelsea.

Regardless of the opinion one might have of Jürgen Klopp, one cannot claim that the Liverpool manager isn’t a man without moral conviction. For one, he actually turned down a role at Manchester United on gut alone before joining Liverpool. If that doesn’t mark the German as a person of upstanding character, it’s hard to say what else would.

While the 50-year-old is known for being a true player’s manager and a supporter of each member of his squad through the ups and downs, he has also not hesitant to call out any one person in the organization when he deems to be in the wrong.

This principle would appear to apply even to his brightest star in 43-goal scorer and potential Ballon d’Or candidate, Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian received a yellow card for simulation in the 1-0 loss to his former club, Chelsea at the weekend, having been adjudged to have gone down without contact in search of a penalty.

When asked about the incident after the game, Klopp was swift to condemn the winger’s actions, “It was a dive or he waited for the contact. I’m not sure,” the manager said.

“That’s not what I want to see, that’s not what he wants to do. It happened.”

The free-scoring striker had a torrid time on the afternoon, with former Roma teammate Antonio Rüdiger using his experience playing with Salah to effectively shackle the league’s top scorer. With one domestic fixture left to Brighton on Sunday, Klopp will want his talisman to find a way to end his three game run without a goal, which matches his longest barren run at the club:

“He can do much better,” the German assured Liverpool fans. “He will score again no doubt about that.”

With only the Champions League final left following the end of league action, Red supporters will be hoping that the only whistle after a Salah action for the rest of the season is the whistle for a restart after goals.
