Liverpool Showed “Brilliant Quality” to Confirm Top Four Finsh

Dejan Lovren was in the mood to celebrate the team’s performance against Brighton.
The Premier League season is over, but Liverpool’s isn’t. Not yet. There’s still the small matter of the Champions League final in Kyiv. But whatever happens there, thanks to a convincing victory over Brighton yesterday, the season has been a success.
Those three points ensured the Reds will be involved in next season’s edition of Europe’s top cup competition, and that was always key for this team, this season, in order to set the stage for them to push for even more in the next year or two.
“Every year it’s getting more difficult to get into the top four,” defender Dejan Lovren noted after the match. “We showed our quality again. We had it similar last season in the last game, we needed a win [and] we played brilliant football and had many chances.
“We did it. It was brilliant and the most important thing is that we won and we are in the Champions League again next year, because everyone deserves that—the fans and us. Everyone is happy. It was a great team performance.”
After a week to recover after a difficult run in the league, with the focus on getting to the final clearly taking a toll on a talented but thin squad, Liverpool looked back to their best again on the weekend. Now, more rest and preparation. And Kyiv and Real Madrid.
Beyond that, for many of the players, the World Cup will beckon while the club’s focus will turn to making this into a squad that not only can compete with the best in England in Europe, but has the strength in depth to do so week in and week out.
“We have a squad that can compare with every team in the world,” Lovren added of a side that has impressed a great many this season. “We showed it in the Champions League—Porto, Manchester City and Roma in the first game. It’s the team.”
It’s a good team. And thanks to another top four finish and their upcoming Champions League final, it’s a team that can only get better in the coming months.
