Liverpool Internationals: Elliott and Morton Reign at Goodison, Gakpo Scores

Good day out for many a Red.

It was a relatively good day to be a Liverpool FC player, especially if you were Harvey Elliott. In action for the England U21s against Northern Ireland at Goodison Park, The Child scored two goals – a curling free-kick in the second half and grabbed another late in the game with a dinked finish. He was hilariously booed by the blues in attendance. Fair play.

That dink was assisted by our very own Tyler Morton, who also bagged the opening goal in the game with a well-drilled shot from outside the box. Neither Morton nor Jarell Quansah, who started and finished the game, were booed.

Also in English youth action, Calum Scanlon made an appearance in the U19s’ 7-1 thrashing of Mexico, helping them win the Marbella Cup.

The Netherlands put a nice bow on their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a 6-0 win at Gibraltar. Captain Virgil van Dijk played the first half, while Cody Gakpo came on at the 77th minute and quickly notched himself a goal.

Caoimhin Kelleher played a half in the Republic of Ireland’s 1-1 draw against New Zealand.

Ben Doak was the rare Red had a a bad day, his penalty was saved towards the end of Scotland U21s’ goalless draw with Hungary.

In Asia, Japan beat Syria in a comfortable 5-0 win in their World Cup qualifier. Wataru Endo captained the side for 83 minutes.

Over in South America, Alisson Becker and Alexis Mac Allister played for Brazil and Argentina as the latter team won 1-0 at the Maracanã. A Nicolás Otamendi header in the 63rd minute decided the game. Still, the game will likely be remembered more for the shameful scenes before the match that saw Rio de Janeiro police assault the visiting fans.

Elsewhere, Luis Díaz played 81 minutes in a 1-0 win for Colombia against Paraguay, while Darwin Núñez notched two goals for Uruguay in a 3-0 win against Paraguay. Two minutes after scoring his second in the 71st minute, he came off for former Liverpool FC striker Luis Suárez.
