Liverpool Turn Focus to Real Madrid and the Champions League Final

After having to work to keep the focus on the league, it’s finally time for the fans and players to look to Kyiv.

It was rather hard as Liverpool fans over the past week to keep the focus on Brighton and guaranteeing the top four finish that would ensure the club are in next season’s Champions League regardless of what happens in Kyiv in two weeks.

And it’s not just the fans who had to work on keeping the focus on the final league game of the season. The players, too, had to make an effort to keep their focus on the present. Now, though, it’s all focus on Madrid and that Champions League final.

“We’ll be ready,” breakout left back Andy Robertson told beIN Sport following Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Brighton at Anfield. “We’ve got a long two weeks. We’ll be in the best possible shape and we look forward to seeing what we can do.

“It’s hard to keep your mind off it but we had to this week because we knew how important the Brighton game was. But now we can get excited—the fans, families, friends, the players, and everyone around the club can really get excited.”

For most clubs in the Premier League, the season is over. Manchester United and Chelsea have an FA Cup to concern themselves this weekend. Then, a week later, it’s Liverpool in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.

For everyone else, the offseason has started. For Liverpool, there’s two weeks to recover from the exertions of a long and tiring season and to prepare for defending champions with a chance to win their sixth European Cup on the line.

The last week—ever since the second leg against Roma, even—it’s been about trying not to think about Real Madrid. Now, finally, it’s time. Time to prepare—and time to really get excited, for the fans and players alike.
