Danny Ings Reportedly Wants to Leave Liverpool

The striker has accepted that if he wants a chance to revive his career it will come elsewhere.

Danny Ings will leave Liverpool Football Club this summer with the striker having decided that if he’s to have the chance at playing regular football and perhaps to revive his career after his injury struggles in recent seasons, it will have to be elsewhere.

So says multiple reports today, including from The Times’ Paul Joyce, who says that Ings has decided to leave the club this summer—after having turned down the chance to move elsewhere in past transfer windows such was his desire to make it at the club.

That desire was both admirable and understandable, but at 25 years of age, that he would now make the hard choice to move on is understandable, especially given if he remained at Liverpool he would likely be no better than third choice at his position.

He might not even be that. Last season, Dominic Solanke moved ahead of him on the depth chart, pushing Ings to third. And for the coming season, Rhian Brewster has been promised a first team role, plus Divock Origi will get pre-season to prove his worth.

Even in a best case scenario for Ings, minutes would have been limited—and last season he only managed 361 in all competitions, four minutes plus one match of total played over the entirety of the 2017-18 campaign. All things considered, moving on seems wise.

Ings has reportedly had interest from West Ham, Newcastle, Tottenham, Leipzig, and Bayer Leverkusen in the past, though it is unclear if any remain interested. This summer, he has been linked with Crystal Palace, which may be his most likely destination.
