Eight Liverpool Players Heading to Russia for World Cup 2018

The final World Cup squads are out and eight Liverpool players have been included.

With the World Cup set to kick off in just over a week in Russia, the final squads for all the participating nations have been announced and eight Liverpool players have been included—with at least one surprising name joining the expected first team stars.

Closest to home, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson have been confired to the England squad—even if Henderson won’t be wearing the armband in Russia after manager Gareth Southgate chose to give it to striker Harry Kane instead.

Despite a late push for inclusion that saw him training with the national team following the end of his injury-ravaged club season, Adam Lallana unsurprisingly didn’t make the final cut for England and was left off Southgate’s final 23-man squad.

Many, though, will be far more interested in how Liverpool’s attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mané fare in Russia, with the trio officially named to Egypt’s, Brazil’s, and Senegal’s respective World Cup squads.

Dejan Lovren will also have a key role to play as it was confirmed he was in Croatia’s final World Cup squad. Simon Mignolet, on the other hand, likely won’t be key to Belgium’s chances in Russia—but at least, as expected, he will be going.

The one surprising inclusion, then, is Marko Grujic, with the young midfielder’s form on loan with Cardiff impressive enough to see him in Serbia’s World Cup squad—and with some suggestion he may even be in line to get playing time in Russia.
