Emil Forsberg Reportedly Looking To Move

File under: once a Liverpool target, always a Liverpool target.

Swedish international Emil Forsberg is one of the vast number of attacking players who has been linked over the past several transfer windows, including January’s, to make the move to Merseyside.

Now, the 26-year-old attacking midfielder has made some interesting comments to a Swedish publication, indicating he’s ready to leave Energy Drink Leipzig.

“I’m ready for the next big step. That’s going to be very interesting,” Forsberg said in an interview with Fotbollskanalen.

“I am in dialogue with RB and always had a good relationship with the club.

“I have the dream of playing for the strongest clubs in the world.”

The strongest clubs you say? You Swedes have a funny way of pronouncing “Liverpool,” but sure.

Forsberg had a bit of a difficult season at Leipzig, missing a total of 11 matches due to injury. All told, he only managed 4 goals and 4 assists in Bundesliga and European competitions, or a goal or assist every 264 minutes. This is a huge step back from his breakout season the year before at Leipzig, where he scored 8 goals and added 19 assists in the league, good for a goal contribution every 87 minutes.

Injuries aside, Forsberg has not consistently produced those kinds of big time numbers that had all of Europe clamouring for him last summer. But if he can be gotten on the cheap—and our experience with Energy Drink should suggest otherwise—he might be worth taking a punt on. He’s certainly a more exciting attacking prospect, and with one with more upside, than Xherdan Shaqiri.
