Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise has taken to Twitter to apologise for previously criticising Dejan Lovren after the Croatian’s latest impressive performance against Argentina.
Aside from one minor lapse in concentration, Lovren put in a commanding performance against Lionel Messi and co. to earn his second consecutive clean sheet.
Lovren is in perhaps the best form of his career, having finished the club season in fine fashion as he formed a dominant partnership with January arrival Virgil van Dijk.
The much-improved displays from the once erratic defender have significantly boosted his reputation, with Riise admitting his own perception had been transformed.

“Mr Lovren. I have been negative towards you during this season. I apologize!” Riise, who made nearly 350 appearances for the Reds, wrote.
“You have won me over. Played great. Had the best players [including Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero] in your pocket and proved to be very important to the success of our club! Good luck for the rest of World Cup mate.”
Riise was not alone in praising the 28-year-old, with huge numbers of Liverpool supporters eager to emphasise his recent progress.
Lovren with three flawless games all back-to-back, when it matters most: Champions League final, Nigeria and now Argentina. But we have fans telling you that we should be replacing him with players like Tarkowski and Lascelles.

Mad how Lovren has turned around his performances for Liverpool and Croatia.
He’s playing with swag. Good for him.

Lovren has had a great game. He has loads of great games. I really, really hope he can get rid of the errors next season. He deserves the recognition of being a good defender.

Dejan Lovren has pocketed Ronaldo and Messi within the space of 4 weeks. My starting CB.

It is understood that the club are unlikely to spend big on another centre-back this summer in the wake of Lovren’s resurgence.
