Gerrard lauds improving Henderson
Steven Gerrard has backed Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson to become a “top player” after the midfielder earned widespread praise for an impressive World Cup performance against Tunisia.
Henderson was one of England’s stand-out players in their opening game, hailed for his leadership qualities and excellent long-range passing.
The 28-year-old’s reputation has been boosted by his improving displays, and Gerrard, who preceded him as Reds skipper, believes he is finally getting his due credit.
“It’s no surprise to me,” the newly-appointed Rangers boss told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“He’s had his criticism over the years but obviously I’ve worked very closely with him and not only is he a fabulous player, he’s a great kid as well.”

Gerrard also hailed the dedication of his former team-mate and his relentless desire to improve.
“He’s someone who works so hard at his game, stays behind all the time after training, working on every single department of his game.
“He’s always in the gym, he lives his life for the game, so it’s great to see him doing so well and I think he’s going to keep growing and growing and become a top player.”
Henderson faces competition for a first-team spot at Anfield next season, with new arrival Fabinho likely to be handed a starting role.
