Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could return in November

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could return to the fold in November after suffering ligament damage in April, according to James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo.

Chamberlain’s promising season was brought to an early end after he sustained the serious injury from a challenge made by Roma’s Aleksandar Kolarov in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final.

The club have not issued a specific timeframe for Oxlade-Chamberlain’s recovery, but a lay-off of around six months is expected, allowing for a November comeback.

Should the Englishman’s recovery take longer than expected, he could remain sidelined until the New Year, but he, alongside the Reds’ other injured players, has been working closely with the club’s medical staff to prevent such an eventuality.

Elsewhere, Joe Gomez is expected to be ready for Liverpool’s pre-season games at the start of July.

The 21-year-old was hopeful of breaking into England’s World Cup squad after impressing in his first caps, but he has been forced to stay home after undergoing an ankle operation last month.

Gomez’s recovery has progressed quicker than anticipated, according to Pearce, and he has now been allowed to return to the training pitch.

Fellow defender Joel Matip, who has been out since April with a thigh injury, will also be in contention for the Reds’ early friendlies.

The centre-back may, however, struggle to regain his place after a string of fantastic performances from Dejan Lovren alongside January arrival Virgil van Dijk.

Liverpool kick off their pre-season with a trip to National League North side Chester on July 7th and visit Tranmere, Bury and Blackburn before they travel to US for a blockbuster tour.
