Marco Asensio speculation rubbished

Liverpool have no interest in Marco Asensio and Real Madrid are not considering selling the player, according to Sky Sports‘ Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

There have been murmurs that Liverpool are weighing up a move for the highly-rated youngster which would shatter their present transfer record.

Asensio fuelled the speculation on Monday when he refused to rule out a move to Anfield after being directly asked about the rumours in a press conference.

“When the World Cup is over, we’ll talk about that sort of thing,” he said. “Now I’m focused on [Spain] selection.

Balague, however, has moved to quash the reports, insisting that neither party views the deal as a possibility.

Asensio, set to be a key player at the Santiago Bernabeu for a number of years, purportedly has no desire to leave.

The 22-year-old, who scored 11 goals in all competitions last season, can play on the left-wing and in attacking midfield, so would have been a virtually ideal addition.

The club remain in the market for a number 10 in the Philippe Coutinho mould and are eager to significantly bolster their attacking depth given that their overreliance on Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
