Steven Gerrard Excited about Ejaria Loan Move

The new Rangers manager is excited about the player he’s brought with him from Liverpool.

With Steven Gerrard now managing Rangers, it came as no surprise to anyone that he quickly made a move to bring a promising young Liverpool player on loan. With his recent time working at the academy, Gerrard is well aware of the players at the club who haven’t yet reached the first team and what they can offer. Oh, and his 17 year playing career in which he cemented himself as one of the finest footballers this club has ever seen probably doesn’t hurt.

With first team minutes likely to be hard for him to get at Anfield, Ovie Ejaria was an obvious candidate for a spell up north. And, shockingly, Steven Gerrard has publicly said nice things about the player he’s just brought on loan with him.

“It’s been good Ovie has now joined us”, Gerrard told Scottish newspaper The Herald. “He’s an exciting player, very skilful.

“He’ll have the crowd on the edge of their seats and fits the profile that we were looking for in the midfield area”.

Speaking more about the type of player he says Ejaria as, Gerrard added that “he’s six foot two, he’s rangy, leggy. He can win balls back and also drive at defences and make things happen. He gives us that nice blend in midfield and something different to what’s been here before.

“I’m delighted to have him in for the year on loan. Liverpool were very helpful there.”

While there are probably questions one could ask about the quality of the Scottish Premiership opposition he’ll be facing, this is nonetheless a good opportunity for Ejaria. He’s going to be working under a manager who clearly likes and trusts him, and will presumably play a style of football similar to that of the Liverpool academy sides he has been involved with since arriving at the club as a 17 year old.

With Rangers being one of the better sides in Scotland, he’ll also be at a club that should dominate possession and give him lots of opportunities to show his attacking qualities. And with the club being so well supported, there will be lots of pressure on him in a positive sense, giving him a taste of what it feels like to play for a big club.

It’s an exciting time, and hopefully a breakout season, for Ovie Ejaria.
