Cardiff Expect Marko Grujic Decision Within “the Next Few Days”

The Liverpool midfielder’s future should be decided shortly.

Liverpool’s 22-year-old midfielder Marko Grujic remains in demand and with his future up in the air as the player looks to decide this week between a new Liverpool deal and heading out on loan for another season and making a permanent switch this summer.

A number of Italian clubs including Milan and Lazio have been linked with a move for him, with Liverpool reportedly setting a £20M price for if Grujic leaves permanently, but the preference would be for the player to sign a new deal and head out on loan again.

And if he does sign a new deal, Cardiff City remain his most likely loan destination, with manager Neil Warnock having made bringing Grujic back for another season a top priority after the player was key in helping them to return to the top flight last season.

“I spoke to Marko yesterday,” said Warnock. “We are still optimistic but we should know in the next few days. I think he will come to us [but] it depends on the negotiations. There is a contract involved but it will be resolved. I’m sure they will make a decision shortly.”

A first team role at Liverpool for Grujic isn’t entirely out of the question, either, but minutes will be hard to come by in midfield this season and playing every week for a side in the Premier League would likely be better for the player’s development than cup duty.

Whatever happens, with Cardiff looking to prepare for the upcoming season they need a decision soon, and while Grujic is first choice they can’t wait forever on him—and that means we’re likely not far off from finding out what Grujic’s immediate future holds.

“We have found a back up which we are trying to hold on to for a couple days,” Warnock added. “I will be disappointed if I don’t get [Grujic] but it won’t be the end of the world. They have made it clear they want him to come, it’s just up to the player now.”
