Barcelona eye shock Mignolet swoop

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has emerged a shock target for Barcelona with his future at Anfield uncertain.

Mignolet started the 2017/18 season as Liverpool’s no.1 goalkeeper but slipped behind Loris Karius in the pecking order at the turn of the year and watched from the sidelines from the end of January onwards.

The Belgian has publicly expressed his frustration and his desire to hold talks with Jurgen Klopp when he returns to Melwood next month.

The recent arrival of Alisson Becker from Roma could well demote Mignolet to third-choice, provided the under-fire Karius chooses to stay put.

Liverpool are reportedly willing to allow Mignolet, whom they signed from Sunderland in 2013, to leave the club for a fee of around £12.5million, and Barcelona appear to be considering a bid.

Marca report that Mignolet is being lined-up as a replacement for outbound deputy Jasper Cillessen.

Mignolet wants first-team football but may still be tempted by a move to the Catalan giants.

It is important that Barcelona have at their disposal a second-choice goalkeeper possessing an EU nationality to ensure they comply with the restrictions surrounding homegrown/foreign players.

Should Mignolet depart, it is likely that Kamil Grabara or Caoimhin Kelleher will be promoted to the senior set-up.
