Christian Pulisic could be allowed to leave Dortmund next summer

ESPN FC‘s Raphael Honigstein claims Borussia Dortmund could be willing to sell long-term Liverpool target Christian Pulisic next summer, though he will stay put for the moment.

Speculation of a swoop for Pulisic has once again resurfaced after he bagged an impressive double when the sides met in the International Champions Cup earlier this month and it has been heightened by reports that the player’s representatives have declined to negotiate a new contract.

The 19-year-old himself heavily praised Liverpool in an interview last week.

However, sources have told Honigstein that no formal offer has been received despite reported interest from both Liverpool and Chelsea and that, with only ten days of the English transfer window remaining, it is unlikely a big-money deal can be fast-tracked.

Pulisic is contracted to Dortmund until 2020, but the club may be effectively forced to sell him next summer if he does not intend to extend his stay and they risk losing one of the hottest prospects in world football for free.

Klopp is known an admirer of the American and may seek to position his team at the front of the queue if Pulisic seeks a move.

He has publicly played down the need to replace Philippe Coutinho, who left the club in January, but it is believed that adding a versatile attacking midfielder to his ranks was his priority heading into the summer transfer window.

It appears highly unlikely that a deal for top target Nabil Fekir will be resurrected, so Liverpool may seek to play the long game, waiting for suitable players to become available as they have done in the past.
