Klopp delighted to have Fabinho and Keita from Day One
Jurgen Klopp believes it is hugely advantageous to have Fabinho and Naby Keita available for training immediately as the duo look to adapt to their new surroundings.
Both officially became Liverpool players on Monday, with Keita’s move agreed last summer and Fabinho captured just days after the Champions League final.
With neither player on World Cup duty, they were able to report to Melwood for the first day of pre-season training, maximising Klopp’s time to mould them into his ideal midfielders.
“I’m very, very happy to finally have Naby here. It took a while,” the boss told the official Liverpool website. Fabinho is also here and that’s perfect for the moment. It’s even better they can start from the first day with the training because they have to learn the most, they have to adapt to our style of play.
“We have eight games until the season starts and we will need them all. They all are important in a different way. They are here, we can start, that’s good.”

Klopp was also asked about his returning defenders, with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip training again after missing the tail-end of last season through injury.
The German says the returnees will feel like ‘new additions to the squad’ and is eager to ramp up his squad’s fitness.
“It always feels a little bit like they [the players coming back from injury] are like a transfer as well. Joe Gomez was out for a long time, but he was out in a very decisive period in the season, so it’s very good to have him back.
“It’s fantastic to have Joel Matip back, especially because Dejan is still at the World Cup and we wish him all the best for that – there’s no problem with having a final of England against Croatia!
“Clyney was already involved again in the last part of the season, but of course he’s also like a new addition to the squad. The boys coming back from loan [too].
“And now, let’s go. It’s an intense time, but of course a very, very important time. You know how the season is, we don’t have a lot of time to do proper training in the physical department over the season, so we have to set the basis now.”
Liverpool kick off their pre-season schedule on Saturday with a trip to National League North outfit Chester.
