Rumour Mongering: Liverpool “Offered” Gianluigi Donnarumma

The Milan goalkeeper’s agent is said to be actively looking for a new home for the 19-year-old.

AC Milan have been barred from European competition for this and next season, with the Serie A side set to miss out on the Europa League in 2018-19 and any competition they might otherwise qualify for in 2019-20. And as a result, some of their players want out.

Key amongst those from a Liverpool point of view would have to be 19-year-old Gianluigi Donnarumma, Italy’s presumed future at the goalkeeping position and a player whose agent is now actively seeking a new home for according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian outlet goes so far as to claim that agent Mino Raiola has offered Donnarumma to Liverpool and that Milan would be willing to sell the player for €60M—though such a fee seems in conflict with previous reports of a release clause said to be lower than that.

At times over the past year, there have been claims that Donnarumma’s release clause—said to be set at €100M—is cut in half if Milan fail to make it into the Champions League, and before being barred they were set to be in the Europa League for the coming season.

Either at €60M or €50M, though, given Donnarumma’s talent it seems if not perhaps an outright bargain then at least a fair and affordable price in the current market—and certainly more affordable than what Liverpool would have to pay to sign Roma star Alisson.

Whether the Reds are interested is another question. But it certainly seems plausible Donnarumma would be available, and Milan’s situation means they have far less leverage than might otherwise be the case which could make him an appealing target.
