Official: Bogdan to join Scottish Side on Loan
Liverpool send Adam Bogdan to Hibernian for a season-long loan.
Heading into this off season, Liverpool Football Club had a rather short list of positions in which to look at key upgrades. First, signing a 6 to either challenge Jordan Henderson or to rotate heavily with him and to replace the inevitable departure of Emre Can. And out of nothing emerged the stunning signing of AS Monaco’s Fabinho as a clear upgrade on Emre and terrific fit to Klopp’s system. Next, a playmaker either on the wing or as the furthest-forward midfielder, to play off of Naby Keita and to rotate with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. To that end, we saw Liverpool’s now infamous scuttled deal with Nabil Fekir. Though, while the transfer remains decidedly off, there is still some hope that a deal may eventually be pushed through at the conclusion of the World Cup with both the club’s interest and Fekir’s desire limited to each other.
The final big piece on the transfer wish list was some form of re-configuring of the goalkeeping scenario. With Loris Karius having grabbed his chance as the #1 with both hands, only to see that solidity be shaken as an undiagnosed concussion potentially influences poor play in the Champions League Final, there was the expectation that Simon Mignolet would look elsewhere to ply his trade. For now, both goalkeepers remain under their employ and, as of yet, no moves for either a clear upgrade or a keeper to challenge Karius have emerged.
Instead, we have a goalkeeping transfer piece of a different sort: a season-long loan for Adam Bogdan. Bogdan will be headed to Scottish side Hibernian for the entire 2018-2019 season as he seeks to get playing time and hopefully work his way into a more permanent move there or elsewhere. The 30 year-old will have some work to do, but we all wish him the best as he tries to get his career on track.
