Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Bid For Croatia’s Vida

The Besiktas defender is reportedly on Liverpool’s radar after an impressive run in the World Cup alongside Dejan Lovren.

I can hardly remember a time when Liverpool weren’t supposedly in the market for a central defender. It’s a position of perpetual need for some supporters. But it’s hard to argue with that stance this summer given that Joël Matip had an on and off season, dealing with injuries and poor form, Ragnar Klavan isn’t the answer, and Joe Gomez may or may not be ready to stake a long-term claim at centre-back.

Liverpool are on the rise now and can’t afford to drop out of the Premier League’s master pack or fall out of contention for Champions League glory. Depth is needed in defense.

As you probably know, The World Cup is the absolute best time and place to scout players. Actually, most scouts don’t do anything during the months leading up to the tournament because all they have to do is watch the matches on television and pick out players who are winning or did something pretty impressive. Trust me, it’s easy.

So it comes as no surprise that Dejan Lovren’s defensive partner for Croatia, World Cup finalist, is linked with a move to Liverpool.

Domagoj Vida and Lovren have been a solid pairing for Croatia throughout the tournament but at 29-years-old and untested in the Premier League, it’s not exactly obvious that Vida would excel in Jürgen Klopp’s team.

But rumours are rumours and they deserve our unfettered respect.

Liverpool have reportedly made a £17.5million bid to Turkish club Besiktas for Vida. But it wasn’t enough. Besiktas are said to be biding their time, looking to extract something more like £30million from any club hoping to sign the Croatian defender.

Vida joined Besiktas just last January from Dynamo Kiev but the Turkish club would supposedly be willing to take advantage of Vida’s World Cup success and sell to the highest bidder.

Also, Liverpool’s pony tail game has been on the decline lately so Vida would certainly be an invaluable resource on that front.
