Club confirm plans for returning World Cup trio

Liverpool have confirmed that Jordan Henderson, Simon Mignolet and Dejan Lovren will all begin training in the next few days after their post-World Cup breaks.

The trio were entitled to a three-week holiday after their respective sides all reached the last four in Russia.

Henderson, according to Klopp, was keen to return immediately and had to be convinced to enjoy a break. The skipper will report back to Melwood on Sunday, along with Mignolet.

The Belgian stopper is fully expected to leave the club this month after falling to third in the pecking order, though Liverpool are currently struggling to sell him for their initial £12million asking price.

Lovren, meanwhile, will be the last player to begin his preparations when he returns on Monday morning.

The club say that each player will undergo physical testing for the first couple of days, just as their team-mates did last month, but should be able to train alongside the rest of the squad later in the week.

Due to their late return, it is highly-unlikely Henderson and Lovren will be fit enough to feature in the season-opener against West Ham on August 11.

Joe Gomez is set to partner Virgil van Dijk in Lovren’s absence, with Joel Matip struggling for fitness.
