Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Show Interest in Aaron Ramsey

The Arsenal midfielder can leave his London club for free next summer when his contract ends. So, let’s link him to Liverpool.

I don’t know what’s true and what isn’t regarding all of the transfer rumours that fly around. I have no clue where Danny Ings will end up by Thursday’s deadline. I don’t know what will become of Divock Origi. I’ve not been made aware if Nabil Fekir will arrive by the time the dust of this transfer window settles. Nobody tells me anything. And so, I wait. I let transfer news come to me in it’s own time. I find this to be normal and healthy.

But it’s clear that there are others who are not so content with this outlook. The transfer window is rife with ITKs and their pert faces that blurt nonsense for attention. Social media is hilariously bogged down with bad rumours. Folks spew forth on their podcasts hoping for a spike in their numbers. I think it’s supposed to be fun. But I’m uncertain how.

This week Ian McGarry made an comment on his podcast about Aaron Ramsey and the Arsenal midfielder contemplating his future at the London club. McGarry went on to suggested that Liverpool had shown a “little bit of interest” in Ramsey and that’s something for which we should all keep our eyes peeled. True?

“I think there’s no vacancy at Liverpool right now following the arrival of Fabinho and Naby Keita but Ramsey would certainly be a very good addition to Jurgen Klopp’s squad as a creative box-to-box midfielder.”

I don’t know what’s true. But my guts tell me Ramsey would not be a lock in Liverpool’s midfield. The Welshman has his moments of excellence during a season but he isn’t a clear upgrade on any of Jürgen Klopp’s key players in the midfield.

Next summer could bring a different story if Ramsey is still at Arsenal at the end of the season. He would be available for a free transfer and Liverpool might be interested in a 28-year-old player looking for his last big contract. But for now, this one is at best just something to stop thinking about.
