Liverpool could join vote to change transfer window deadline
This summer’s English transfer window slammed shut at 5pm on August 9 after Premier League clubs agreed last September to change the deadline. Many clubs were unhappy with disruption caused to the early stages of their campaigns by late transfer deals, and voted to alter the close of the window.
And now, less than a year on, the same clubs could vote to change the deadline back.
Mirror Sport are “aware of at least two clubs who voted for the change that now believe it is a mistake and they should go back to the August 31 deadline” as the new deadline date has put English football at a disadvantage to other European leagues (such as Ligue 1, Bundesliga, Serie A and La Liga), who can continue to buy players from the Premier League until August 31.
While this also means that English clubs can still sell surplus players – most applicable, in Liverpool’s case, to Loris Karius, Simon Mignolet and potentially Ragnar Klavan – it also implies that Premier League clubs could end up weaker than their European counterparts.

In order for the transfer window to alter again, a Premier League club would need to propose a change and then have 14 other clubs vote in favour of it. This vote may take place at the next meeting of the Premier League chiefs in September.
According to the Echo, “FIFA are looking at an idea to bring in a uniform transfer window to stop La Liga and Bundesliga clubs being able to pounce on English clubs. Italy will also do the same as the Premier League as their window shuts this Friday, ahead of the opening of the Serie A season.”
The vote to switch back to the old deadline would need to be almost unanimous, however, and some clubs appeared to benefit from the change this summer: Everton, for instance, completed deadline-day deals for Yerry Mina, Andre Gomes and Bernard right up to the close of the window.
