Liverpool Reportedly Reject Torino Bid for Marko Grujic

The midfielder could still leave the club this summer on loan but it won’t be to Torino.

Liverpool today have rejected a bid by Torino that would have seen Marko Grujic heading to the Serie A side on loan for the 2018-19 season due to the Italian side’s desire to include a £10M purchase option in the deal.

According to The Echo’s James Pearce and ESPN’s Glenn Price the offer was immediately rejected by Liverpool and they signalled that they would not consider any offer for Grujic this summer that included a purchase option.

Further, despite that Grujic still has two years left to run on his current Liverpool contract, the club are said to be pushing the player to sign a new deal before allowing him to head out on loan for the coming season.

Liverpool are believed to consider Grujic a likely first team player for the club next season and want to avoid having him reach that stage of in development at the same time as he’s entering the final year of his contract.

Doing so would risk a situation similar to that of Emre Can, who ran down his contract last season and then departed the club on a free, and so the club are insistent that before he heads out on loan now he must re-up.

It’s uncertain what might happen if the end of August approaches—and with it the close of the transfer window for continental sides—and Grujic still hasn’t signed a new deal.
