Fabinho Is Ready to Play for Liverpool

The Brazilian has yet to make his competitive debut, but that hasn’t dampened his spirits.

Four games into the season and Fabinho is starting to feel like the forgotten man.

The expensive summer signing from Monaco is yet to get on the pitch, with the Brazilian midfielder not even making the matchday squad at times. Despite being a prominent part of the preseason fixtures, it still feels as though Klopp is integrating him into the system, and Fabinho is still learning the style of play. There are comparisons to be made with Andrew Robertson, who didn’t really cement a starting place last year until December but shone from that point onwards. There is still no reason why Fabinho cannot do the same.

The man himself seems largely unworried by the way things have gone so far.

“My start has been good, a good adaptation”, ESPN report Fabinho as saying. “The preseason was very good, we had nine friendlies and I played nine.

“It was good to play against English teams to see what the rhythm, the intensity and the physique is like. I am adapting to the team’s style of play. The more experienced players have helped me -- the technical team as well.

“Me and my wife like the city, we already have a home. [Roberto] Firmino is being a great guy, his family has given good support to [Alisson and myself]. It’s been fine. Having Brazilians in the team helps. Now it’s really about making my debut. I’m fine, training well and prepared”.

That Fabinho has not yet featured in a red shirt does not mean he is not important, or that he will not be needed. The club did not spend £40 million on him to occasionally make the matchday squad, and it would be a big surprise if he does not find himself in the starting lineup sooner or later. He’s biding his time, and his time will come.
