Fabinho making “big steps” towards Premier League debut
Jurgen Klopp has revealed that new signing Fabinho has made “big steps” towards making his debut for Liverpool, according to reports.
Fabinho joined Liverpool from Monaco in May in a £40million move but bizarrely has yet to feature competitively for the Reds after a string of good performances in pre-season. Thus far, he has only made the substitutes bench once in the opening day 4-0 win against West Ham.
The 24-year-old has been called up to the Brazil squad for their upcoming friendlies against the United States and El Salvador during the international break, and Klopp anticipates that he will enter the fray for Liverpool once players return to Premier League duty after the break.
Klopp was recently asked what was wrong with Fabinho to keep him out of the squad, and he responded with “Nothing.”
“The team is good and he needs time,” said the German manager. “He could have been in the squad, of course, but it’s quite difficult to make the squad at the moment because they are all fit.
“It’s good to have the situation as one might need a bit of time, or the others are more used to it. That’s the only reason.
“But he will come back. And now we have games every three days, and he has made big steps in the last few weeks. He could even play at the moment.”

After the international break, Liverpool will have to endure a gruelling 22-day period in which they play Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Chelsea, as well as a League Cup match at Stamford Bridge and Champions League ties with Paris Saint-Germain and Napoli.
Of Fabinho, Klopp said: “Hopefully now [he] has games with Brazil, and then after he comes back we have games, games, games.
“We have the whole of September a lot of games, only against top teams. We need all of the players, that’s good.
“We have come through the period where it looked like we didn’t need all of them because we played quite a consistent line-up and the level in training was high. That’s all cool. Hopefully they all come back healthy as we have to use them all because of the number of games.”
Liverpool fans will be eager to see their new defensive midfielder in action after the international break.
