Liverpool to make fresh proposal approach to city council

Liverpool FC will make a renewed approach to the city council’s planning committee next Tuesday in an ongoing effort to see its proposals passed, according to the Echo.

The club hoped to make Anfield into a host venue for other major sporting events (such as American football) and music concerts.

However, in a move that shocked all those involved, the council committee opted to reject the first sports-based proposal outright and deferred the second one, claiming that Liverpool executives had failed to consult thoroughly with residents living around Anfield on how such changes could affect them

Tricia O’Brien, planning chairperson, invited the club to return with more information on what measures it will take to negate the impact the proposals could have on local residents, and how these measures will be communicated to them.

The music proposal would see Anfield become host to up to 10 concert events each year for 50,000 people, taking place over a 6-week period from the end of the football season until the time when the club would need to start preparing the pitch for matches towards the end of June. Concerts would take place in the evening and finish no later than 11pm.

Local residents, however, objected to the proposal due to fears over traffic congestion, noise pollution and anti-social behaviour, all of which could cause major disruption to their daily lives during the normally-quiet summer period. These residents were backed by Everton and Anfield ward councillors at last week’s council meeting, and will no doubt be joined by them again next week.

Liverpool fans and residents living around the ground will keep a close watch on the outcome of next week’s meeting to see whether or not Anfield stadium will be approved as the newest concert-hosting venue in England.
