Mohamed Salah Wins Small Concession From Egyptian FA

While the question of image rights appears to still be up in the air, the Egyptian FA are taking steps to increase privacy and security.

Liverpool and Egyptian star Mohamed Salah has gone up against the Egyptian FA and won. Or, at least it was a partial win. The FIFA Player of the Year nominee has gotten the FA to back down to his wishes over the small—but important—issue of privacy and security during training camps with the national team.

“There’s a lot of insurance for the camp and the players are completely isolated from the public and no one is allowed to approach the team,” Karam Kurdi, a member of the Egyptian federation said in a statement on the issue.

“The hotel’s security authorities are charged with preventing anyone from being at the residence or entering the players’ rooms.”

“All the actions are very good and the team is now ready to meet Niger to win.”

There are still issues to resolve, including important image rights between competing sponsorships of Salah and the national team, but for now it is a good sign that things are finally heading in the right direction.

No doubt Salah will also be weary of inopportune photo ops with despots that may or may not be forced upon him now or in the future.

Regardless, a week ago the prospect of retirement from international football seemed to be a real possibility for Salah. Now, he can join his Egyptian teammates to train and prepare to face Niger in an African Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday. Hopefully more issues can be ironed out in the near future.
