Watch: On-Loan Harry Wilson Defeats Manchester United

Liverpool’s on-loan youngster helped Derby County defeat United with a Man of the Match performance.

After an impressive half-season loan spell at Hull City and a successful preseason with Liverpool, many pegged academy product Harry Wilson as a player who might push for minutes at the senior level for Jurgen Klopp this season. Instead, the 21-year-old was loaned out again, this time to Championship side Derby County, who currently sit in sixth place in the English second tier, just two points off the top.

Last year, Wilson managed an impressive return with Hull City, 7 goals and 3 assists in 13 appearances, or a goal or assist every 99.6 minutes. This season started a bit slowly for Wilson, failing to score or assist in his first four matches with the club. However, he’s managed to add his name to the score sheet in his last two appearances, first in Derby’s 3-1 win over Brentford on the weekend, and again last night against Liverpool’s arch-rivals Manchester United.

Wilson earned Man of the Match honors after seeing United off, following a 2-2 draw and a penalty shootout. The youngster scored a peach of a free kick from 30 yards out to equalize , 1-1, early in the second half. Wilson celebrated with his best Fernando Torres impression, emphatically raising 5 fingers to the Old Trafford faithful, reminding them of Liverpool’s five European Championships.

The Liverpool loanee wasn’t through punishing United, though. After being put through on goal, he attempted to round the keeper outside of the box, and the United man handled the ball as the last defender, resulting in a red card. Wilson also converted a penalty during Derby’s shoot-out victory.
