Kevin De Bruyne Returns to Full Training Ahead of Liverpool Clash

The Manchester City star could play a role against Liverpool on Sunday.

Manchester City have been handed a boost to their title defence with the return of Kevin De Bruyne to full training this week ahead of their Champions League tie against Hoffenheim—and next Sunday’s Premier League clash with Liverpool.

De Bruyne suffered a knee ligament injury during pre-season and was expected to be out for at least another month but has managed to beat his recovery schedule and will at least be eligible to make the bench mid-week for City.

If he does, and even more so if he makes a late appearance, he could be in line to make the bench against Liverpool and provide Pep Guardiola with another potentialy game changing substitute to bring on should things not be going well.

City and challengers Liverpool share top spot in the league table after seven games, but City have the edge on goal differential—both with 19 points and having conceded three times, but with Liverpool scoring 15 to City’s 21.

At least on current form, then, game changing attackers isn’t something City look likely to need. Still, De Bruyne was a big part of last season’s title challenge, and it is good news for City—and bad for Liverpool—that he could be fit.
