A Win and/Or Cleansheet Would Keep Pace With Best-Ever Liverpool Sides

This Liverpool side could rewrite the record books with a strong performance against Huddersfield.

We know this Liverpool side is a very good one. The Reds are currently averaging 2.5 points per game in the league, even after a “nightmare” run last month, and sitting joint-top on points with Chelsea and City.

It’s a great start, and with nearly a quarter of the season gone, this Liverpool side can make a claim to be among the best-ever vintages in Red with a strong performance against likely relegation fodder, Huddersfield Town.

If Liverpool remain as stingy at the back as they have all season and come away from Huddersfield with yet another clean sheet, Klopp’s men will be the first Liverpool side in 126 years to concede just three goals from the first nine league fixtures. The last squad to come close to this mark was Rafa Benitez’s 2007/08 squad, which conceded just five in the opening nine.

A clean sheet would also mean they would break the Premier League era goal differential record for Liverpool sides after nine games. Liverpool currently have a +12 goal differential, but the previous best is +11 after 9 games, achieved on four occasions.

Of course, a clean sheet doesn’t mean a win. Most Liverpool fans would be disappointed walking away from John Smith Stadium with a 0-0 draw. If, however, Liverpool walk away with all three points, it would be their 200th all-time away victory during the Premier League era.

Moreover, a win would put Liverpool on 23 points, joint-best in the Premier League era with Rafa’s 2008/09 title-challenging squad.

Despite pulling the double over Huddersfield Town last year, the lads will have to show more focus and effort than they have against teams in the relegation zone previously. Under Klopp, the Reds have struggled on the road to relegation sides, winning just two of their last nine, and not recording a win since facing off against that god-awful Aston Villa side in February of 2016.
