Carragher tips Liverpool trio to bounce back against City

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has thrown his support behind Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to find their shooting boots again as the Reds prepare to take on Manchester City on Sunday.

The attacking trio were unable to register a single shot on target during Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to Napoli last night.

Carragher has, however, backed his former club to pick themselves up and come out fighting against City this weekend as the two clubs vie for top spot in the Premier League.

“The front three, who have been absolute superstars for Liverpool, aren’t quite firing the way they were last season,” explained Carragher.

“I’m sure that will come in the coming weeks and months but certainly, at the other end of the pitch, they’re doing their job.

“There’s no doubt the high press and aggression is perfect for Liverpool, certainly at Anfield on that tighter pitch than what we see teams normally play on.

“In terms of playing that way against City, the debate is whether you really go for them or sit off them.”

Carragher has also heaped more praise on centre-back Virgil van Dijk for the impact he’d made since his arrival in January.

“I think Liverpool look really solid, and they have since he came in,” said Carragher.

“Opposition teams now look at Liverpool and they don’t see that weakness defensively they’ve seen before in Klopp’s team.”
