Jamie Carragher urges Liverpool to sign a creative midfielder

Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool’s midfield is lacking a creative midfielder, and that needs to be addressed if Jurgen Klopp’s side want to progress.

Liverpool are yet to really replace Philippe Coutinho, who departed Anfield in January this year. Liverpool did attempt to bring in Nabil Fekir in the recent summer transfer window, but the Reds found a problem with his knee in the medical, which meant the move did not go through.

Carragher is adamant that Liverpool need to find a midfielder with a creative edge if they want to continue to improve as time goes on.

“I just look at that midfield and I think we’re missing that Coutinho type of player. Obviously, we went in for Fekir, so we’re obviously looking for someone like that,” Carragher told This is Anfield.

“We’re trying to compete with City, and I look and they’ve got De Bruyne and Silva in there. I don’t think we’ve got that sort of player.

“We’ve got different types of players and we don’t play the same as them. But, now and again at Anfield, you’re going to need someone to open up teams and do something a little bit clever.

“That’s my only worry with this squad, but besides that, I think this could be Liverpool’s greatest squad for the last 30 years.”
