Naby Keïta Latest Liverpool Star to Suffer International Injury

The Guinean international had to come off against Rwanda with a suspected hamstring injury.

It’s been a bad international break on the injury front for Liverpool. About as bad as it gets. Mohamed Salah picked up an injury. Sadio Mané suffered a minor fracture to his hand. Virgil van Dijk played with broken ribs. James Milner stayed at Anfield and still got hurt.

And now it may have gotten even worse after Naby Keïta was forced to come off against Rawanda during Guinea’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier today, with the midfielder holding his thigh as he left the pitch and early reports he had suffered a hamstring injury.

About the only good news right now is that many of the injuries have been relatively minor and that Salah and Milner at least are both expected to be fit and able to face Huddersfield Town on the weekend when club football resumes following the international break.

Van Dijk, meanwhile, has been playing through his injury for some weeks now and reports continue to suggest Mané’s injury is minor, though his short-term prognosis and chances of playing on the weekend is at the moment less clear than Salah and Milner.

All told, it’s a lot of injuries to key players but, for the most part so far and barring details about Keïta, minor knocks and niggles—and with Liverpool’s schedule a little lighter in the coming weeks, hopefully there will be chances for some needed rest and rotation.
