Rumour Mongering: Divock Origi to Everton
It’s the second week of the international break, have a dumb transfer rumour.
It’s the second week of the international break, and that’s always a bad time to be a club football fan. Thankfully, the rumour mongers have come up with an especially dodgy bit of transfer talk today to distract us all from that, at least for a few minutes.
And that dodgy transfer talk is that Divock Origi could be set to end up at Everton in January if the Blues manage to ship Cenk Tosun back to Besiktas following his £27M move to England last January—something that, apparently, all parties now regret.
Given the involvement of Tosun and Besiktas in the rumour, it won’t be a massive surprise to learn it’s come from the Turkish press, who only last week were claiming Origi was the top striker target for Galatasaray heading into the January transfer window.
Apparently, then, if you’re looking for updates on Divock Origi’s future, the place to check isn’t the Belgian or English press. But, honestly, probably not. And Origi to Everton seems even less likely to be a thing than Origi being Galatasaray’s top striker target.
If a move were to transpire despite of the whole local rivals who don’t tend to do business thing, Origi would become the first player to exchange the red of Liverpool for Everton blue since Abel Xavier, who switched to Goodison for £750k in 2002.
