Xherdan Shaqiri: We Had to Be Brave All Game

Power cube powers us to win.

It’s all going right for Xherdan Shaqiri at the moment.

The £13 million signing from Stoke, considered by many to not be of the required standard for Liverpool, is proving everyone wrong at the moment. His strong performances, largely from the bench or as a rotation option, are certainly helping Liverpool win games. That he seems to irritate Gary Neville, Mr. Man Utd, and Charlie Adam, not exactly the most beloved former Liverpool player, only helps endear him to supporters.

And the man himself had the right things to say after the 4-1 victory over Cardiff.

“We had to be brave all game”, Shaqiri told the official Liverpool FC site.

“You saw in the beginning, we scored very early for 1-0 but it was a tough game to play and it was not nice to play against this team; they are a very physical team. We knew they were very strong in [set-pieces] with big players in their team.

“So we had to be brave all game and, in the end, I think the result is a little bit too much for this game but it’s a good sign for the team that we believed until the end and we also tried to score more goals. We fully deserved the win.”

Talking more broadly about his time at Anfield so far, Shaqiri added that “It’s nice to be here. We have a very good team and we want to be successful. When we play like this we can be successful.

“Our goal has to be to be successful. We are in a good way but we have to keep going, it’s just the beginning of the season and we have a lot of games to come. We are in a good way.”

In a good way indeed. After a slight wobble, it’s all coming together again for Liverpool. It’s likely that Shaqiri will continue to be an option rather than a definite starter, but he’s certainly proving to be a great option.
