Andy Robertson Helps Shine a Light on Liverpool Foodbank

The Scottish left back spent time with the North Liverpool Foodbank this week to promote a vital food drive at Anfield on Sunday.

Behind the fierce rivalry between Liverpool and Everton is a unique kinship. The two Merseyside clubs divide the city’s football supporters into warring factions on derby days but looking a bit closer you’ll find a shared community of people who work together, through the rivalry, for the betterment of their city.

Andy Robertson has been an advocate for charitable organizations during his burgeoning career and, ahead of the Merseyside derby, the Red’s left back volunteered for the North Liverpool Foodbank to promote a partnership between Spirit of Shankly and the Everton Supporter’s Trust called Fans Supporting Foodbanks.

FSF is a presence at every Liverpool and Everton match and will be set up at Anfield on Sunday when Liverpool host the Toffees. The organization is ramping up its winter drive, asking for food donations that are crucial for many people and families in the city through the holiday season.

“To see the work they do is incredible,” said Robertson.

“Obviously we’ve got a big game on Sunday and I’m sure we’ll all be focused on it, and the fans will be focused on it, but the van will be there, the help will be there, and if everyone can bring something small it can make a big difference.

“It’s two teams but one city, and if we can try to get the numbers down, especially before Christmas, then I’m sure we can all be proud of ourselves.”

Professional players have a lot of clout to inspire supporters into action. Robertson, who for his 21st birthday raised money for a food bank in Glasgow in lieu of presents, clearly has a heart for people in need of basic necessities. The spotlight he has helped to shine on Fans Supporting Foodbanks will hopefully go a long way towards sustaining underprivileged people and family’s in Liverpool over the festive season.
