Liverpool are not in discussions with Andy Robertson over a new contract

Liverpool are not in talks with Andy Robertson or his representatives over renewing his contract and are not planning on beginning discussions for the remainder of the season.

Last summer, Andy Robertson joined Liverpool for £10million and has since gone on to establish himself as part of one of the best defences in Europe. His work rate and quality in defence have seen him become a fan favourite at Anfield.

The Scotsman has registered three assists in the Premier League so far this season, with his phenomenal delivery to supply Xherdan Shaqiri on Sunday a perfect example of how deadly he can be from the flanks.

With his influence at Liverpool ever increasing, there have been stories emerging over the last few months that he is set to be rewarded with a new contract that would double his current wages to £60,000 per week but the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce has moved to quash these claims.

With three and a half years still left to run on Robertson’s current contract, Liverpool are not planning to offer him a renewal just yet, according to the Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce.

Apparently, Robertson’s current contract is “heavily incentivised” in the sense that his basic wage is supplemented by performance-based bonuses which reflect Liverpool’s recognition of his talent and contribution on the pitch.

The report from the Echo claims that Liverpool officials believe it to be unfair that a new deal is being offered as it would appear as though Robertson is stalling on a deal if a contract extension is not announced when that is not the case.

Robertson will be offered a new deal eventually and it will reflect his importance to Liverpool Football Club but for now, all parties are focused on the season at hand.
