Liverpool Reportedly Not Interested in Luka Jovic

Despite rumours out of Germany about a possible deal, the Reds will not move for Frankfurt’s on-loan star.
Eintracht Frankfurt striker Luka Jovic, on loan with the German side from Benfica, may just be 20 years old but the young Serbian is leading the Bundesliga in scoring with nine goals and three assists in nine appearances—plus a further three goals in the Europa League.
This follows on from a 2017-18 season when Jovic scored nine goals and three assists in 27 appearances for Frankfurt as a 19-year-old, and with his two-year loan set to expire in the summer the player has recently found himself linked with a number of very big clubs.
It’s hardly surprising. Jovic has been highly rated for some time and his return so far this season has been stunning, especially considering his age. And so seeing Bild link him with Barcelona and Bayern Munich and Liverpool this week wasn’t much of a surprise, really.
Liverpool, though, have moved to rubbish the rumours, as The Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce and Goal’s Neil Jones have both come out to say that there will be no move for Jovic. It is largely said to be due to the club’s belief in Dominic Solanke and Rhian Brewster.
In those two players the club believe they have two of Europe’s most talented young strikers on the books, and that a big money move for Jovic wouldn’t make any sense. The obvious takeaway from that is that talk of a big move for Jovic is being driven by his agent.
One of the most common places rumours come from are agents seeking to draw out the interest of potential suitors. By making it appear a number of clubs are after their client, the hope will be that a genuinely interested party will step up their bid to win the “race.”
Jovic is a top talent, and he’s proving that this season at Frankfurt. A return to Benfica for next season seems unlikely. It appears, though, that Liverpool won’t be his destination.
