Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Ready £85m Bid for Dembele

Rumours are swirling as the Barcelona outcast’s future remains in doubt.
Things have not been going well for Ousmane Dembele, whose high profile move to Barcelona during the summer of 2017 has been largely a disappointment. The knives have been out since the player was omitted from the Barcelona team who lost to Real Betis at the weekend, leading director Guillermo Amor to making some pointed comments regarding his professionalism.
Now all eyes are on the situation as it unfolds in Spain. The influx nature of it hasn’t stopped everyone from speculating on where Dembele will end up next. And if there are transfer rumours, Liverpool will inevitably get thrown into the ring.
The rumour, which skirts dangerously close to the coveted “your transfer rumour is bullshit” designation here at TLO HQ, says that Liverpool are planning to shell out £85 million for the French forward in January.
Jürgen Klopp has stated that it’s unlikely that Liverpool will do any major business during the winter transfer window. Breaking their transfer record by engaging in a no-doubt drawn out transfer negotiation with Barcelona would certainly fall under that definition. While FSG have shown themselves willing to break the bank for their desired player, nothing has yet indicated that Klopp is that keen to bring Dembele to Anfield.
If it does happen that Dembele finds his way to Merseyside, it will most likely be in the summer and not in the next few months.
