Spirit of Shankly slam £5million parting gift for outgoing Richard Scudamore

Liverpool supporters group Spirit of Shankly have criticized the suggestion that outgoing Premier League Chairman could be given a £5million parting gift.
Club owners and chief executives from the 20 top-flight clubs met on Tuesday to discuss the idea.
It was announced on Tuesday that Scudamore, who has spent 19-years as Chairman of the Premier League, will be replaced by Susanna Dinnage.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Jay McKenna, chairman of Liverpool supporters group Spirit of Shankly said: “It’s astonishing really and shows a complete lack of self-awareness.”
“Suggesting the clubs give Richard Scudamore that money is absurd. If he wants a legacy, there are a million and one better ways that money could be spent.
“Most supporters will see this and be open-mouthed and incredulous that given the current climate where grassroots football is in need of support, fans of clubs across the country are starting food banks, and Liverpool are trying to deal with period poverty, that it is suggested by very well-paid executives that a very well-paid executive gets £250,000 per club.
“I certainly don’t begrudge Scuadmore the money he earns as he has brought huge sums into the game. But I hope and would expect some of the club executives at the meeting heard the suggestion and said ‘Hang on, this is completely unnecessary’.
“That it was even suggested in the first place is mind-boggling.
“The Premier League are encouraging their clubs to work in the community and pay the living wage – many of whom don’t – and now they are proposing they use £250,000 for a farewell gift.”
