Saudi League Not Currently Negotiating Summer Move with Mohamed Salah

The Saudi Pro League say they have “opened the door” for Liverpool’s Egyptian superstar forward but are not currently discussing a potential summer move.
With just two months left to play in the 2024-25 season, the status of contract negotiations surrounding Liverpool stars Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold remains a public unknown with all three currently on expiring deals.
There are doubtless people on the inside with insight, but they aren’t sharing it, and while most believe Salah and Van Dijk are likely to sign new deals nobody knows for sure and in Salah’s case there’s always the looming spectre of the Saudi Pro League.
They have made public attempts to sign Salah in the past, but despite current uncertainty surrounding his contract status there have not been serious links so far in 2025—and now a high ranking league official has confirmed there have been no new talks.
“He’s one of the best in the world and obviously very well-liked in the Arab community,” Pro League marketing chief Mohammed Basrawi told Marca. “So I wish he’d come here, and we’ve opened the door for him to do that, but we aren’t negotiating it now.”
Salah has previously made clear he believes he isn’t finished with football at the highest level just yet about would prefer to sign a new Liverpool deal, and that there are not any active discussions with the Pro League would seem to confirm as much.
One does imagine, though, that if a Liverpool renewal can’t be made to work for whatever reason the league would be thrilled—and move quickly to turn those opened doors into a lucrative contract for the 32-year-old Egyptian superstar forward.
